Sometimes people need to spread their wings and give themselves a little more space and opportunity.

That is exactly the case for a local hair salon.

On The Move

You may have visited GH Hair Studio a time or two when it was over at 1906 E Broadway Ave. If you plan on going there again, you may want to head to the Kirkwood Mall.

Yes, that's right GH Hair Studio is moving to the mall, and will occupy a space near iKeating, where Silo Salon used to be.

We spoke to the owner, Gracie Helmenstein back in 2022, when she originally opened the hair studio on Broadway; she told us a little about the history behind that space.

Prior to it being "GH Hair Studio," it was called "Hair Shaft."

It opened in 1974 and stayed in operation for 19 years, until the owner eventually retired.

Helmenstein took over the space, decorated it and really made it her own.

After spending a few years in that location, opportunity again, came knocking at Helmenstein's door.

She was told there was a salon space available in the Kirkwood Mall.

"I knew it was something I couldn't pass up," said Helemstein.

Helmenstein told us that since Silo Salon moved from that location, and Regis closed in the mall, there are no other salons in that particular area of the mall; there is a need to fill the space.

Currently, GH Hair Studio has four chairs, once the business gets moved into the new space, they will have ten.

Helmenstein says she plans to move everything over to the mall this weekend and will have the grand opening on Monday, February 3rd.

Here are a few sneak peeks of the space now.

We are excited to see what it looks like when it is all finished.

Fun Fact

GH Hair Studio has an interesting story/idea behind the name. Helmenstein tells us that she views doing hair as an art form, so just as one would refer to a place where you create art as an "art studio," she thought it would be appropriate to call GH, not a hair salon, but a "hair studio."

We love to see the passion and artistry, and applaud another local businessowner chasing after their dreams.
