New businesses are popping up all over the Bismarck-Mandan area, and it's great to see. While driving from Mandan yesterday, a sign caught my eye. There was a new tattoo shop that had just opened called Atticus Tattoo Studio. I reached out to the owners, Devin and Savannah Kinney, to get the scoop.

Devin has been tattooing professionally for 18 years (14 in Bismarck-Mandan). The tattooing talent seems to run in his family, as he has two uncles who are also professional tattoo artists. He said being around his uncles, seeing the artwork and hearing the buzzing machines as a young kid inspired him to get into the field.

All of his practicing and hard work has paid off, because he is incredibly talented. Take a look at his work.

Devin really enjoys doing black and gray realistic tattoos, due to the intricacies of the style, and all the textures and small details. He says he enjoys a challenge.

After some discussions about their future goals, the two decided it was now or never. They were ready to pursue their dreams and open a studio together.

Savannah tells me she's making quite the career switch; for 11 years, she owned a local daycare.

"After we decided to open a shop together, it has inspired me and him both to get me to take up tattooing, myself, as I have really enjoyed tattoos in general since I was a teenager," said Savannah.

Devin says he's excited about having their own shop since he feels completely free to make it exactly how he wants it to be, and to have the freedom to do things in his own unique way.

Atticus Tattoo Studio has been open since July 16th (2025), and is offering 20 percent off all tattoos until the end of August. Currently, they are booking out about a month.

You can find the tattoo studio at 531 Memorial Highway, Bismarck, near Midco and Bill's Upholstery.
