Montana Senators Unite To Call For Windy Boy’s Resignation
A bipartisan supermajority of Montana state senators is calling on Sen. Jonathan Windy Boy, D-Box Elder, to resign following multiple allegations of sexual harassment and abuse spanning decades.
In a letter sent this week and signed by 39 Republican and Democratic senators, lawmakers said Windy Boy’s continued service undermines the integrity of the Legislature. The request follows his removal from committee assignments earlier this month and repeated public calls for his resignation from Senate President Matt Regier, R-Kalispell, and Senate Minority Leader Pat Flowers, D-Bozeman.
While the letter acknowledges Windy Boy’s right to due process, senators emphasized their responsibility to maintain a safe and respectful environment at the Capitol.
“The Montana Senate and the Legislature as a whole have a duty to protect the ability of every legislator, staff person, and member of the public to safely do their jobs and participate in the legislative process in a dignified manner,” the letter states.
Lawmakers also urged Windy Boy to consider stepping down for both institutional and personal reasons.
“Choosing to resign is an opportunity to uphold the high standard that the public expects of its lawmakers and to show your dedication to the dignity of the Montana Senate,” the letter states. “We also believe it would be the best decision for you personally, as this issue is not going to go away and will undoubtedly continue to escalate the longer you choose to remain in office.”

Senate leadership gathered signatures from a supermajority of the chamber, though five senators, in addition to Windy Boy, were not included. Four of those lawmakers serve on the Senate Ethics Committee and were recused from the matter, while another senator is currently suspended from office by court order.
