“Smile” You’re On Bismarck’s Flock Camera (s)

I had no idea these were out there

I'm not oblivious to cameras set up at stoplights or intersections. I'm from San Diego, and if you ran a red light at a particular busy location, don't be surprised if you get a nice snapshot of yourself mailed to your address, along with a ticket. I have heard that there are some cameras around Bismarck and Mandan, but I had never heard of Flock cameras until this morning.

So exactly what is a Flock camera, and what can it do?

Well, first of all, it definitely has caused quite a reaction from so many people - saying that they are losing their privacy. One such person had this to say on the Bismarck People Reporting News Facebook page - "So I’m learning more about Flock cameras tracking your vehicles and using facial recognition. I see Bismarck has 3X. The data retrieved from what I saw can also show your medical records and other information about you. Has anyone else been researching this? More data centers to store your information. I’m seeing law enforcement misusing the information to track their spouses and lawsuits being filed"

Flock cameras (by Flock Safety) are Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) used by police, HOAs, and businesses to track vehicle details.
