John Krasinski’s ‘Jack Ryan’ Already Renewed for Season 2
One doesn’t lock John Krasinski down for a new TV series and blow off the Quiet Place director-star’s recent success. Amazon has already tasked Krasinski with a second Jack Ryan mission, months before the first has even premiered.
Even as Amazon’s new take on the classic Tom Clancy character won’t debut on the service until August 31, filming is already expected to commence on a second season this summer. According to the description, “In season two, Jack Ryan confronts the forces in power in a dangerous, declining democratic regime in South America. The second season commences production this summer in Europe, South America and the United States.” Amazon also claims the Super Bowl trailer led to a 400% increase in Prime members placing the series on their watchlist:
With so much early anticipation for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan from our customers and personally having the pleasure to preview the exhilarating, action-packed first season, we are excited to greenlight a second season of the series months ahead of its debut. The new season will take our unexpected hero to a new, exciting and dangerous world.
Perhaps tellingly, Krasinski’s voice was absent from the press release. Directed by Passengers and Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum and starring Krasinski in the title role, the eight-episode series features Abbie Cornish as Cathy Mueller, a doctor specializing in infectious diseases (plus Peter Fonda as her father), along with The Wire vet Wendell Pierce as Ryan’s boss James Greer. Carlton Cuse (Bates Motel, The Strain) and Graham Roland (Almost Human) penned the script and developed the project together.
