Kendrick Lamar is ready to rock the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. The Compton rhymer toplines the first wave of performers for the star-studded event that include Fifth Harmony, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd.

Lamar leads the field of nominees with eight nominations, including Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for “Humble.” Kendrick’s fiery video also garnered mentions for Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, and Best Choreography.

Following Kung Fu Kenny are The Weeknd and Katy Perry who are tied with five nods apiece. Other multiple-nominated nominees include DJ Khaled, Bruno Mars, Big Sean and Calvin Harris.

This will be Lamar's second VMA appearance; his first being at the 2013 VMAs where he performed "Swimming Pools." Since then, he has become a Grammy-winning rap star who consistently pushes the culture.

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, with Katy Perry as host, will air live from The Forum in Los Angeles on Aug. 27 at 8PM ET.
