Fargo Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney has issued a Mask Mandate with in the city of Fargo.  The Mayor utilized his emergency powers effective immediately.  According to an article on Valley News Live, the Mayoral Mask Mandate states, "Every person shall, within the city of Fargo, wear a face covering over the mouth and nose in all indoor environments where they are exposed to non-household members and where social distancing of 6 feet or more cannot be assured."  The Mask Mandate also applies in all outdoor settings where there is exposure to non-household members.

This mandate takes effect immediately, however there is no penalty for non-compliance.  The Mayor of Fargo added this mandate is about science, not politics.  Somebody explain to me how a mandate without a penalty makes any sense?  Take any law on the books and add there's no penalty for non-compliance?  Do you think people will take it seriously?  I'm not advocating for a penalty for not wearing a mask, I just think the whole thing is silly without some sort of recourse.  I'm also not advocating for masks in general.

According to an article on KX News, the city of Minot also issued a mask mandate on Monday afternoon.  The mandate is basically the exact same as what Fargo issued, and once again there's no penalty for non-compliance.  This makes Minot the 2nd city in North Dakota to issue a city wide Mask Mandate.

So which cities in North Dakota are next?  I spoke to the Mayor of Bismarck Steve Bakken, and he told me this, "At this time, Mask Mandates without any sort of enforcement or penalty serve no purpose."
