Mindy Kaling Will Remake ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ for Hulu
You’d better have your dress shoes ready. Another Four Weddings and a Funeral is in development, as Hulu confirms that Mindy Kaling will remake the classic British comedy with a new limited series adaptation.
Hulu confirmed a series order for the project from its Wednesday upfront presentation, along with a third season of The Handmaid’s Tale and official premiere date for Stephen King anthology Castle Rock. The new Four Weddings and a Funeral will adapt the 1994 film with Mindy Project alum Kaling writing and executive producing with Matt Warburton. The series is “inspired by” the British romantic comedy film, and “will follow a group of friends as their lives intersect through five events.”
Kaling herself was on hand to confirm the series will be set in London over ten episodes, as well that the cast will include Pakistani and black characters. The original 1994 film featured a cast of Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, John Hannah, Kristin Scott Thomas, Rowan Atkinson and more. The film was Oscar-nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, but lost to Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction, respectively. Hugh Grant also won a Golden Globe for his role.
Hulu didn’t specify a premiere window for the new series, but you can watch the original trailer below and stay tuned.
