Twenty years ago, Aaliyah mesmerized fans with her alluring single, “One In a Million.” On Saturday (Dec. 10), on the song’s 20th anniversary, Missy Elliott remembered the late singer and the song’s impact on the R&B genre.

Missy posted on her Instagram page a screen capture of Aaliyah in her sensual “One In a Million” video. She wrote in the caption, "Time flies! And there's still not a day that goes by that u aren't inspiring new artist with your TIMELESS music & style! U will never be forgotten Aaliyah (Babygirl) We [love] u!"

True indeed. From Kehlani to Tinashe, you can definitely see and hear Aaliyah's influence in their music and style.

As for "One in Million," the song, which Missy Elliott penned, introduced listeners to Timbaland's skittering drum production that fit perfectly with Aaliyah's seductive voice. The song's accompanying video was also memorable with Aaliyah lying atop of a black Ford Mustang wearing an all-black leather ensemble that revealed her belly button. The song was also named after the singer's second album, which sold over 2 million copies in 1996.

On a side note: January 16, 2017 will mark Aaliyah's 38th birthday if she was alive today. Expect plenty of tributes, remembrance and possibly cover songs on that day.

Gone but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Baby Girl.
