Rules For Wearing A Cowboy Hat In North Dakota
We have a lot of farmers and ranchers in our state, and many of us embrace the rural lifestyle and fashion trends. With that, we see a lot of people wearing cowboy boots and hats.
This is news to me, but a couple of friends told me there are rules you have to follow if you plan to wear a cowboy hat in North Dakota.
1. Take It Off
Some people think it's very important to take off your hat when you enter a home or business, but most North Dakotans don't do this. However, we all agree that you absolutely have to take your hat off during the national anthem.
There are mixed feelings about whether or not you should wear your cowboy hats to weddings and funerals.
2. Hold It The Right Way
Apparently, there is a right and wrong way to hold and grab your hat. You should never grab it by the brim; instead, hold it from the top.
3. Tip It
This isn't something we see too often anymore, outside of TV and movies, but we should absolutely bring it back, because it's honestly pretty hot. Tip your hat to a woman in North Dakota and you might land yourself a date.
4. Don't Touch
This rule doesn't just apply to cowboy hats; it applies to any hat on someone's head. Unless you want to end up in a brawl, don't touch a person's hat without permission. Oh, and there's no greater disrespect than knocking a hat off a person's head.
Those are just a few rules I picked up from some friends, but I'm sure there are many more. If you're ever in need of cowboy hat-wearing tips, I'm sure there are plenty of farmers and ranchers in North Dakota who can help you out.
