North Dakota: Don’t Fall For This Water Bottle Trick
16It seems like every day we hear about some new danger. Unfortunately, today isn't any different in that respect. According to Bright Side, criminals are doing something with water bottles to confuse and trick drivers.
The Water Bottle Ploy
Let's say you are leaving the grocery store. You're carrying bags, while trying to find your car and dig your keys out of your pocket. The last thing you're doing is inspecting your car -- especially when it's cold outside.
Let's say in the hustle and bustle of the moment you don't notice something strange sitting on the tire of your car. You take off driving and hear a loud pop and crunch sound. This is pretty alarming.
To inspect and make sure everything is alright with your car, you hop out of your car, leave it running and take a look. In that moment, an unknown figure runs up to your car and takes off with it.
Carjacking
As crazy as this sounds, it is something that has happened to many people. That's how easy it could be for a person to take off with your car. If not that, at the very least steal valuable items out of it.
As I'm sure you've probably guessed by now, the pop crunch sound was a water bottle wedged between your tire and the frame of your car.
The source even demonstrated this scenario on their YouTube channel.
Safety First
Next time you're out running around pay extra attention to your surroundings. Look for suspicious characters and make sure nothing is out of the ordinary with your car. Stay safe out there!
