North Dakota Residents Urged To Inspect Mailboxes
It's time to go outside and take a look at your mailboxes.
According to 2News.com, the United States Postal Service is encouraging North Dakota residents to take a look at their mailboxes as part of National Mailbox Awareness Week.
Bet you didn't know that was even a thing. It might sound a little silly, but it's a serious thing. The Postal Service does this every year to help support efficient mail delivery, neighborhood curb appeal, and generally, help postal operations run smoothly.
What To Do
So, what do you need to do? According to the source, you should do the following things this week.
Replace any loose hinges on mailbox doors - you don't want the door to fly off on a windy day and lose all of your mail. I'd hate for your new health insurance cards to blow all the way from Bismarck to Dickinson.
Repaint mailboxes that might be rusty or that have peeling paint. I'm sure your mailman doesn't want to have to get a tetanus shot. Plus, maybe you can get a little creative and give it a cute color.
Add or replace house numbers - you want to make sure your mail gets to the right house!
Remount unstable posts - You don't want it to blow over and get all dented up.
They also use this week to encourage people to sign up for Informed Delivery. I actually have this, and it helps you see what's expected to come to your mailbox; that way, if you don't get it, you can possibly track it down later.
Anyway, if you have a little extra time this week, spruce up your mailboxes and help our North Dakota postal workers out.
