People move from all over the country and all over the world to North Dakota. Most of them move here to find employment; they want to make more money to better support their families and gain a fresh start financially.

It's great that North Dakota has so many opportunities, and that the job industry is growing. As a matter of fact, did you know that North Dakota's Labor Participation Rate is 69.5 percent. That ranks us at 2nd in the nation.

Note: According to the United States Congress Joint Economic Committee, the Labor Participation Rate is the percentage of the working-age population that is employed or looking for work.

To get a better idea of which employers are bringing the most people to the state, we did a little research to see which North Dakota employers are bringing in the numbers.

According to Minot Area Chamber EDC, the top employer for Minot's 2025 report is Minot Air Force Base. According to World Population Review the top employer in the state of North Dakota is as it has been for several years, is still Sanford Health.

Looking At Unemployment Rates

What about unemployment in North Dakota? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, North Dakota's unemployment rate as of June 2025 is 2.5 percent.

The state with the highest unemployment rate in the country is the District of Columbia at 5.9 percent. The state with the lowest unemployment rate is South Dakota at 1.8 percent.
