Sgt. John Drange, a soldier in the North Dakota National Guard, died while kayaking Thursday, April 16th, on Lake Sakakawea.

Drange, 35, enlisted in the Army in 1998. He served two tours of duty in Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to Army Times.

Drange was reported missing the morning of April 16th and his body was discovered later that afternoon. No foul play is suspected.

State Guard commander Major General Dave Sprynczynatyk released the following statement, regarding Drange's death:

We are extremely saddened to learn of the recent death of one our National Guard members. The condolences of our entire North Dakota National Guard family go out to John's family in this time of sorrow and we salute his military service to our nation, state and communities.

Funeral services for Drange will be held Thursday, April 23rd, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston.
