Here we are, at the end of January 2020, and I'm not sure if the month dragged on or flew by. What I do know is this past week has been busy news-wise for North Dakota. If you weren't able to keep up with everything happening in our state, I've found some big stories from the week (stories we haven't yet covered this week). Check out the highlights below.

  1. On Monday, the Mandan Walmart announced via Facebook that their store hours are changing this coming weekend. Effective Saturday, February 1, 2020, Mandan Walmart will be open 6:00 AM - 12:00 AM seven days a week.
  2. The woman from Standing Rock who went missing on November 8, 2019 was found safe in Texas last week. This week, Kara Mauai is back in North Dakota. She did have a felony warrant before going missing, so she is currently being held in the Bismarck jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail. Check out the full story here.
  3. On January 30, 2014, Henry H. Howe, a longtime defense attorney in Grand Forks, ND, was arrested in the Walsh County Courthouse. He was charged for conspiracy to commit murder and later with criminal conspiracy to tamper with a witness. The case was dismissed less than four months later. Now, Howe, 78, is suing for six million dollars in damages. Read more here.
  4. On Tuesday, 50-year-old Michael Vincent of Bismarck pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges, for inappropriately touching a teen back in April. There is not a lot of information, but find out more here.
  5. Yesterday afternoon, around 2:00 PM, a security officer on patrol spotted a suspicious package near the door of the Federal Building on Rosser Ave in Bismarck. Police closed off several blocks downtown, and a bomb squad investigated. Everything was cleared in about two hours, but investigators are still examining the package's contents.
