These stories pop up in our news feeds all the time, and we hate to see it. All over the country people are exposing educators, trusted with teaching and shaping our children's' minds, abusing that authority.

While we hear these horrifying stories come out of different states, we don't often hear about it happening in North Dakota. Sadly, today we have that to report.

A North Dakota science teacher resigned last week (Friday, March 21st) after text messages between him and a student surfaced. According to WDAY, the school board accepted the teacher's resignation earlier this week (Monday, March 24th) after a special meeting.

Hankinson, North Dakota

Hankinson is a quiet North Dakota town, with a population of only 918 as of 2023. We don't hear a lot of news come out of this town, but unfortunately, today some disturbing news came to light.

A Hankinson High School teacher has been accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a student.

The teacher, Zach Nelson, was a science teacher at the school, and following the alleged incident chose to resign.

The Hankinson Public School District posted a statement to Facebook to inform the public on the decision, and give people an idea of what next steps would be taken.

In the post, they explained an active investigation is taking place by the Richland County Sheriff's office. No charges or arrests have been made at this time.

According to Valley News Live, the content of the messages is unknown at this time.

For protection and privacy reasons, the name of the student has not been released to the press.

No information as to how the messages were obtained has been released.
