For most North Dakotans this past Valentine's Day was a celebration of love - our days were filled with flowers, chocolates and romantic dinners. Sadly, this was not the case for one North Dakota couple.

According to Valley News Live, 42 year-old Fernando Lucio was charged today (Tuesday, February 17th) with multiple felonies: attempted murder, aggravated assault, terrorizing, and reckless endangerment.

The incident took place this past weekend, Saturday February 14th, on Valentine's Day at Lagrave Place Apartments in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The source says Lucio arrived at the victim's apartment to give her Valentine's Day gifts, followed her back to her bedroom, then stabbed her multiple times.

The source also says police documents outlined the victims wounds: deep lacerations to the victim's forehead, and puncture and laceration wounds to the left thigh.

The victim's child was said to be present during the assault and tried to intervene. Shortly after the assault, Lucio fled the apartment. Police located him in a neighboring apartment and took him into custody.

Other news outlets like KVRR say Lucio left to get the victim cough drops, and upon returning, stated that she "didn't appreciate" him. This source says Lucio told investigators that he "blacked out" and has mental health issues.

The victim was admitted to Altru Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation. According to ND Courts, a court date has not yet been set.
