Why North Dakota Winters Make Us A Little Weird
Now that it's finally warm outside it's easy to look back to just a couple months ago and notice how strange our winter behaviors really are.
I had an old high school classmate reach out to me recently asking what it's like to live in North Dakota.
They wanted to know because they were thinking about moving their family out here. The first question he asked isn't surprising: "How bad are the winters? Are they really that bad?"
I said it does get very cold, and it is something that will be tough, BUT you will eventually get used to it.
When you do get more comfortable with it you will notice that your behavior is a little weird.
1. You will have a remote car-starter codependency.
Once you start your mornings getting into a warm car, you will never want to go back. Having one of these is a must if you don't have a garage.
2. You will get really excited about snowblowers. Busting out our snowblowers sounds like a laborious task, but we love putting those bad boys to use. There's something really satisfying about it.
Once you make it through a couple of really cold winters, you will get a chip on your shoulder and scoff at any newcomer who claims they are cold, because they don't know cold like you do.
3.. You will wear shorts in thirty degree weather to assert dominance.
North Dakota's weather will change you, and that's not a bad thing, that's just how it goes out here. If you're considering moving to the state, make sure you keep these things in mind.
