An Open Letter To North Dakotans Who Don’t Know How To Dress

Dear North Dakotans,

I know it's hard right now. The weather can't make up its mind. It doesn't know if it wants to physically abuse us with negative 40 degree temps or dive into spring.

I think I speak for most of us when I say I'm ecstatic that we are getting some warmer weather right now, but there is one teensy weensy little problem.

We don't know how to dress. And I'm not saying we aren't stylish. Allow me to explain.

I went to the Kirkwood Mall the other day and saw this older woman wearing a coat, but her legs were completely bare. Honestly, I had to do a double-take because I thought she was a streaker.

Luckily, that wasn't the case. It was just a sort of, kind of nice day. She didn't know what to wear.

To be honest, I have those days, too. We get so used to the brutal cold that when it gets above 30 degrees, we bust out the shorts, skirts, and T-shirts.

I thought about wearing a skirt today, as a matter of fact. Even though it is tempting, I know all too well that once you decide to put on shorts, there's no turning back. You will have to go through the whole day wearing those shorts. End up in the shade or get hit with a few gusts of wind, and you're cold and miserable.

It's frustrating trying to dress ourselves right now. I'm here to tell you, it's not your fault.

Don't Pack Away The Winter Coats Just Yet

Unfortunately, as badly as we want it to be warm, we're not quite there yet. My rule is to hold off at least until all of the ice and snow is melted.

I'm sure in typical North Dakota fashion, after this warm streak, we'll get another good snow. Let's cross our fingers and hope we are spared that this year.
