Being the world's most crass superhero isn't all shock value, F-bombs and sexual innuendo. In fact, for Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, donning the super-scoundrel's iconic red suit came with a ton of baggage and expectations, something which lead the actor to suffer a "little bit of a nervous breakdown."

Speaking to GQ, Reynolds detailed the mental health issues he faced after filming the hit film, due to the increased attention on him and pressure to perform.

"I felt like I was on some schooner in the middle of a white squall the whole time. It just never stopped," he told the magazine.

"When it finally ended, I had a little bit of a nervous breakdown. I literally had the shakes. I went to go see a doctor because I felt like I was suffering from a neurological problem or something. And every doctor I saw said, 'You have anxiety,'" Reynolds added.

Despite developing anxiety over his role, the actor admitted that he understands how "fortunate" he is to be in a privileged position.

"I say this with the caveat that I completely recognize the ridiculously fortunate position that I am in," he continued. "But the attention is hard on your nervous system. That might be why I live out in the woods. And I was banging the loudest drum for Deadpool. I wasn’t just trying to open it; I was trying to make a cultural phenomenon."

Fortunately, Deadpool was a smash hit, becoming both a pop culture and box office phenomenon during its February release.

A sequel is confirmed and will begin shooting in early 2017.
