It all started way back in the first week of April, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Chairman Harold Frazier deputized dozens of local folks and set out to start policing some roadways in South Dakota.

Well, rhetoric started escalating pretty quickly with the Oglala Sioux also joining in with checkpoints on the roadways. The entire timeline is right here if you want to click and read a bit.  For a story coming out of South Dakota, it's surprisingly interesting.

The reason given for checkpoints was to cut down on the spread of the virus. In many cases, if you didn't live in the area or provide an essential service, they may just bounce ya back to where you came from.

I'm going to paraphrase a lot here-

SD Governor Kristi Noem said "Wait a minute!"  She then narc'd on the Tribes to the Interior Department, who then lean on the BIA.  The BIA then comes out saying to the Tribes, if it's a state or federal roadway, you need to discuss with state and federal officials.

They all pretend to do that.

The Tribes are asserting their sovereign right to defend their people and police the checkpoints. Well, government lawyer types point out the newly deputized check point police force had not gone through proper training protocols to harass regular folks.

The Governor  then tattletales to President Trump- who really just wanted to blow up some fireworks at Rushmore on the 4th.

And then, just like driving from Buffalo to Spearfish, the story gets BORING!

So instead let's find out WHAT'S CHANGED FOR STURGIS 2020!
