Sturgis Records Another Fatality Approaching Closing Weekend
How many people you know who are riders have been or is going to the final weekend of Sturgis Rally?
According to The Rapid City Journal, the motorcycle festival in South Dakota has enjoyed an increase in attendance numbers this year as the festival is heading into the final weekend. The rally concludes Sunday.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation issued its preliminary count with a 3% increase from 2017.
At this time last year, the attendance was up slightly from 2016.
The DOT starts to track vehicle entering Sturgis at several locations throughout the town during rally week to figure an estimated count of people attending the rally.
The count for fatalities for the rally is now at four. Another motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve near Black Hawk and resulted in the fatal injury. The other three fatalities also were the result of failure to negotiate a curve. The 39-year-old driver was not wearing a helmet.
