A science teacher at Fivay High School in Pasco County, Florida has received a five-day suspension after using a cell phone jammer in his classroom.

Frustrated with his teenage students giving more mind to their social networking than to their studies, Dean Liptak took matters into his own hands, using the illegal device to disable their cell phones.

The school got wind of the situation when Verizon officials dropped in on the administration during a recent school day, informing them that they suspected the use of a jammer in the area because of mysteriously interrupted cell service.

The school acted immediately, concerned that students' safety could be in jeopardy, since emergency 911 access would have been blocked, just like all other calls.

No word on whether or not Liptak has any alternate plans for maintaining his students' attention -- legally -- once he returns to work.
