It looks like the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is about to get the whole band back together. Tom Holland, obviously, will be reprising his role as the web-slinger, and director Jon Watts is already in talks for the next one. Today it was announced that screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers will be returning to write the sequel, which is a very smart move from Marvel considering how well this summer’s movie was received.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two are in final negotiations for the sequel, whose plot and connection to the larger MCU still remains a mystery. They come from a primarily TV comedy and animation background and their work on The LEGO Batman Movie and Homecoming impressed Sony and Marvel so much that they got hired to work on Jumanji and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Spider-Man: Homecoming was the first solo superhero movie that really felt like it was in the MCU, not just because Tony Stark was in it, but because of little details like Captain America PSAs and Avengers Halloween masks that worldbuilt much better than a lot of the vague references to “the Battle of New York” peppered into Marvel’s Netflix shows. Hopefully McKenna and Sommers can keep that steady momentum going for the sequel.
