This Is How We Like Our Potatoes The Most In North Dakota

I love me some mashed potatoes. 

Yep, growing up on the east side of the state, where potato farming is big business, I've always had a thing for potatoes.  I love french fries, hash browns, lefsa, potato chips (kettle chips), and most of all MASHED POTATOES!

To me, nothing rounds out a meal better than some mashed potatoes and gravy.  I don't care if it's turkey, roast beef, or chicken.  Mashed potatoes are true comfort food to me.

The only form of potatoes, that I'm not a big fan of is "baked".  To dry and not a big fan even if you put gravy on them.

Recently, I came across an article from Verdesian, "The Great Potato Debate in America", that caught my eye.  Being a big fan of mashed potatoes, I was curious to see if I was alone or not.

Their research is based on Google Trends over the last 5 years.  They compiled the data to determine which potato dish is the most popular in each of the 50 states in America.

I know I shouldn't be surprised, but I have to admit I am a little.  North Dakota's favorite potato dish is truly unique as we are the only state to have this as its favorite.

North Dakota's favorite spud dish is none other than Tater Tot Hot Dish?!  

Yep, that stuff that shows up at church potlucks, funerals, and other assorted gatherings in the Peace Garden State.  I have to admit, I don't dislike Tater Tot Hotdish, but I don't love it.  Especially if it has green beans in it.

How about the states around us when it comes to potatoes?

South Dakota's favorite is Hash Browns.  Minnesota like me loves its Mashed Potatoes.  Montana's favorite spud dish is Baked Potatoes.

All this potato talk has got me hungry.  Pheasant and mashed potatoes and gravy might be on the menu for me tonight.
