65-Year Old Time Capsule Uncovered In Mandan
Something very exciting was recently recovered at the old Mandan High School.
As I'm sure you know, Mandan school officials traded up and built a brand new high school last August (2024), and that has stirred up a lot of talk in the community.
The new school is approximately 335,000 sq ft, which is quite the upgrade, given that the old school was only 165,000 sq. ft.
The new school is also equipped with several fun and exciting amenities like an outdoor amphitheater, and a new gym, big enough to hold 3,000 spectators.
While the new school is something we can marvel, there recently has been a new discovery at the old Mandan school, and it has the people of Bismarck-Mandan talking.
An Interesting Discovery
According the Mandan School District's Facebook page, a 65-year old time capsule was discovered and the old school. It contains artifacts from 1956-1957. Some of the items it held include former class schedules, athletics financial statements, school election ballots and facts, Mandan County Commissioners proceedings and even blueprints to the school.
There was even a copy of the Mandan Daily Pioneer Newspaper with headlines like "Miss Minot Wins Miss North Dakota Crown," "Body of Ron Eckroth Found; Missing Since June 1st" and "Canadian Plane Crash Claims 79 Lives."
They even shared pictures of the various items to the Facebook page, and it's quite the blast to the past.
The source says the capsule was found behind the exterior 1957 plaque, near the front doors of the building. How cool is that?!
The source says you can even take a look at these items. They will be on display today (Tuesday, June 10th) from 7 am to 7 pm at the Brave Center, which sits at 901 Division St. in Mandan.
