The Russo Brothers Wouldn’t Tell Tom Holland Who He Was Fighting in ‘Avengers’
Don’t tell Tom Holland anything you don’t want the entire world to know. Spider-Man has great powers, but the ability to keep a secret is apparently not one of them.
Speaking at a publicity event for Avengers: Endgame (via ComicBook.com), co-director Joe Russo revealed that Holland, who plays Marvel’s current Spider-Man, is so bad with spoilers, they no longer give him scripts for anything. “Yeah, Tom Holland does not get the script. Tom Holland gets his lines and that’s it,” Russo said.
Holland himself confirmed at the ACE Comic-Con back in January, where he revealed a shocking fact: He’s kept so much in the dark, he didn’t even know who he was fighting in some scenes of the film:
I remember for Avengers, the Russo Brothers are like ‘So you’re just standing here, and you’re fighting this guy and just do whatever,’ and I’m like, ‘Okay, who am I fighting?’ And they were like ‘Well, we can’t tell you because it’s a secret.’ I’m like, ‘Okay so what does he look like?’ And they’re like ‘Well, we can’t tell you because that would give it away.’ So I’m like ‘How big is he?’ ‘Well, we can’t tell you because that would give it away.’
Man, that is some Jon Lovitz-level “ACTING!” right there. Not only can you not see what you’re acting against, you have no idea who you’re acting against. Avengers: Endgame opens in theaters on April 26.
