It looks like this holiday season is about to get very nostalgic. As you know, Toys R Us has been gone for many years. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017. Shortly following that, 700 stores across the country closed down.

According to USA Today, the retailer is making quite the comeback this year. It announced that 30 stores would reopen across the country for the holiday season. These will be temporary, pop up locations, so sadly they will disappear after the holidays.

In addition to the pop up locations, the store also announced they will be opening 8, permanent flagship locations across the country as well. Can you believe it? Toys R Us is actually coming back!

Permanent Locations

  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Wichita, Kansas
  • Camarillo, California
  • Omaha, Nebraska
  • Des Moines, Iowa
  • Deer Park, New York
  • Thornton, Colorado
  • Hanover, Maryland
  • Aurora, Illinois

Naturally, our next thought is, will North Dakota get one of these pop up locations? Here's a list of where all the pop up locations will be.

Pop-Up Locations

  • Auburn Hills, Michigan
  • Grapevine, Texas
  • Metairie, Louisiana
  • Nashville, Tennessee
  • Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Columbia, Maryland
  • Lubbock, Texas
  • Tukwila, Washington
  • Farmington, Utah
  • Deptford, New Jersey
  • Evansville, Indiana
  • Manchester, New Hampshire
  • Emeryville, California
  • Novi, Michigan
  • Lone Tree, Colorado
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • Sevierville, Tennessee
  • Prussia, Pennsylvania
  • Westlake, Ohio
  • Buffalo, New York

As you can see, North Dakota isn't listed here, but I think these pop ups and new permanent locations are definitely a sign of a revival, and it is a possibility in the coming years.

Currently, there is a Toys "R" Us you can visit in the Mall of America. They actually opened a flagship store there back in 2023, so you can take a little road trip over there, if you're really wanting to get nostalgic and find great toys for the holiday season.
