Most people in other states don't really know much about North Dakota. The one thing they do know is that it's cold here, and it's true-- North Dakota is not for the weak. According to CW.com, North Dakota is one of the least-visited states in the country. Since so few people come here, I thought it might be interesting to point out some of the quirkiest things about North Dakota.

1. Summer is aggressively cherished.

We get about three months of truly warm weather here, so when summer hits, we go a little crazy. We do not waste a single day of summer. There is no relaxing during the warm weather months; we are go-go-going. We are doing all of the things we can't do during the winter. We're boating, we're grilling, we're pickleballing (not a word, but making it one), we're at sporting events, we're finding any excuse to be outside. Every Day. All summer. We are maniacs.

2. It's Bright Out

Before I moved to North Dakota, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of how the sun works. Errrm no. That's not the case now. Something that might throw you off if you're not from here is that in the summer, it stays bright outside until like 9:30-10 pm.  Blackout shades are a must.

3. Time measurement

Most people I've encountered in North Dakota do not tell you how many miles away something is; they tell you how long it will take to get there. They will also tell you something is three hours away and call it "Close". Nothing wrong with this, but as a person who gets very car sick, "close" is 20 minutes. Three hours is an immediate "I'm staying home" for me.

If you're new here, or just curious about North Dakota, hopefully you've learned a little something about ND.... other than the fact that it's cold.
