Forever Stamp Price Increase 2026: What North Dakota Should Know

Sure, mailing letters isn't something many North Dakotans do anymore, aside from the occasional birthday card or wedding invite. Even so, you might want to watch out for the new stamp price increase recently announced by the United States Postal Service because it's going to kick in soon.

United States Postal Service Raising Forever Stamp Prices

According to CBS2, the USPS is raising the price of Forever Stamps from 78 cents to 82 - a 4 cent increase starting Sunday, July 12th. This price hike is part of a broader 4.8 price increase across most of its services, due to what the postal service is calling a financial crisis.

• Letters (metered 1oz) up 4 cents
• International postcards: up 5 cents, now $1.75
• International letter (1oz) up 5 cents, now $1.75

Why is USPS Raising Prices

The answer is pretty simple: they're hemorrhaging money. A report release in May showed the postal service is facing a net loss of $2.7 billion. To help offset this, they've implemented a hiring freeze. While that might help stop some of the bleeding, that ultimately means they will have less people to do the work, and that could make the already slow system even more snaillike.

For North Dakotans still relying on mail for things like rural town utility bills, or birthday cards to grandma, you might want to stock up on stamps now.
