What ND High School Hockey & BB Schedules Could Look Like!
COVID-19 doesn't seem to be slowing down in our neck of the woods. Burleigh County especially, continues to be one of the most infected counties in the state. Yesterday, we actually DIDN'T lead the state in new cases, which has been rare of late. All of the major cities, and their counties, remain in the color "yellow" which means more restrictions at our high school sporting events.
North Dakota High School Hockey & Basketball seasons are set to begin in less than two months. So, what does the color "yellow" mean for those sports, when it comes to their regular season schedules. Well, first off you can forget about overnight road trips of any kind. For example, Bismarck High and Bismarck Century's Boys hockey teams are set this year to travel to Grand Forks the week between Christmas & New Years. They each take a turn playing Grand Forks Red River & Grand Forks Central. These match up's won't happen under the color COVID-19 "yellow" threat. Same with regular season Basketball tournaments. (Holiday or any tournaments) A pretty good bet is that much like AAA football this year, teams will not play any games outside their conference. It's unlikely, even day trips against eastern teams will happen.
The COVID-19 "yellow" threat will continue to keep the games with very little fans as well. Much like football, you can expect basketball and hockey to only allow the parents or two vouchers per player to attend the sporting event. So expect significantly less games for your favorite school team and hopefully some sort of state tournament in both basketball and hockey. Hopefully!
