What to Expect at the 2014 United Tribes International Powwow
The 45th Annual United Tribes International Powwow, taking place September 4-7, will be packed full of educational and cultural fun, with something for everyone.
The Lone Star Arena at the United Tribes Technical College is home to this wonderful event every year. Over 70 tribes are represented at the Powwow (recently named one of the 10 best in the nation!), which draws over 20,000 visitors annually.
$20 will guarantee admission to all dance and drum competitions over the four-day period or $12 for daily admission. Seniors (65+) and children under five are free.

Billy Mills, who is best known for being the Oglala Lakota athlete who won the 1964 10,000-meter run in Tokyo, will be making an appearance numerous times throughout the Powwow.
Some of the events he will be attending include:
- Tribal Leaders Summit keynote: noon on Thursday, Sept. 4 at the Bismarck Civic Center.
- Powwow Grand Entry: 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4.
- Youth Day: 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5.

Friday, Sept. 5
United Tribes CampusBeginning at 9 a.m., all school classes and youth groups are invited to the International Powwow for Youth Day.
Attendees can expect a day full of educational activities including:
- Tribal Music
- Cultural Entertainment
- Audience Participation
There is no entry cost for students, teachers and escorts. You can purchase or bring your own lunch.

Open to men and women.There will be two separate tournaments:
- All Native men and women tournament - The National Tournament will introduce a slow pitch tournament with two divisions for men and one for women.
- D and lower division tournament - This will be a tournament for men and women who are both tribal and non-tribal members.
Other activities will include a co-ed 40 and over legends game, a Hall of Fame induction ceremony and a home run hitting contest.

Apple Creek Country ClubAn entry fee of $120/person will include:

Prizes will be awarded to the top three golf teams. This event will also provide scholarships to benefit UTTC students.

10 a.m.Billy Mills will be the Grand Marshall as we celebrate 50 years since his 1964 gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics.
