There is an exciting exhibit announcement from the Dakota Zoo in Bismarck!

In one week, the ribbon will be cut for the new African Penguin Exhibit at Dakota Zoo in Bismarck! According to a Facebook post, the exhibit will open at 10:15 AM on September 21. If you can't make it before September 26, it was also announced that there will be special "penguin hours" on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in October.

What is cool about African Penguins?

Do you remember the movie Madagascar? As it turns out, those penguins probably loved spending time in Africa! In fact, according to the Aquarium of the Pacific, 17 species of penguins call Africa "home."  But just because they live in a warmer climate, does not mean they like to be warm - the water they swim in ranges in temperatures from 41-68o F.

African Penguins also have a fun nickname - Jackass Penguins. Why did they get that name? Aquarium of the Pacific states that when the African Penguins bray, they sound like donkeys. So, maybe you can hear some fun sounds when you check out the African Penguin Exhibit at the Dakota Zoo in Bismarck!

Did you know you can volunteer at the Dakota Zoo?

If you love wild animals, you can get involved with the ones that live at the Dakota Zoo. There are volunteer positions for everything from guest services to animal care support and more! You can even donate to the zoo!
