The National Cancer Institute estimates over 90,000 new cases of skin cancer in 2018 resulting in over 9000 deaths.
And the cost to treat melanoma has more than doubled in the last five years.

You would think states like Florida, Louisiana and the coastal states would rank high, and you would be wrong. It could be, these states know to use sunscreen on a daily basis. Here are the top states for skin cancer rates.

The states with the least sun related cancer include Texas, New Mexico, Alaska, Nevada and Mississippi.
North Dakota ranked #30 with 21.3 per 100,00 residents in annual skin cancer diagnoses.
