The 2017 Teen Choice Awards were held yesterday (Aug. 13), and Zendaya won the best Summer Movie Actress surfboard for her performance in Spider-Man: Homecoming. She used the opportunity to speak out against the "injustice and hatred" happening in the country, in reaction to the tragic events that recently unfolded in Charlottesville, Va.

"Spider-Man is about a young person, right now I want to talk to all of the young people in the audience," said Zendaya.

She continued by reminding the audience of "all of the injustice and the hatred that is happening not only in the world, but our country" and asking young people to listen.  "I need you to be educated I need you to listen. I need you to pay attention," said the young actress/singer/dancer. "I need you to go ahead and understand that you have a voice, and it is OK to use it when you see something bad happening."

The actress wanted to make sure that the leaders of tomorrow understood the power they have in the improvement of society. "You are the future leaders of the world. You are the future presidents, the future senators. You guys are the ones that are going to make this world better. You are the future. So take that very, very seriously all right?"

Zendaya has been nominated eleven times for the Teen Choice Awards. This is her third win and the first time she has used this particular platform to speak out against injustice and promote awareness.  The TCAs air every year on FOX.
