Summer is almost here and most of us are making plans to get outdoors as much as possible.
Enjoying The Warm Weather
To help you make the most of the summer and help you connect with nature, I've put together a list of the top six best outdoor swimming spots in North Dakota.
Going to any of these places is sure to make your summer legendary.
1. Missouri River
I mean, duh. Obviously, you can’t go wrong with spending some time on the Missouri rive.
Kayaking, pontoon-ing (is that a word?), riding on the Lewis and Clark Riverboat, soaking up the sun on the sandbars, etc. It’s a great spot to go.
2. Devils Lake
According to onlyinyourstate.com, Devils Lake is the largest natural lake in North Dakota.
You can pretty much do it all there: jet skiing, fishing, or whatever else your heart desires.
3. Lake Sakakawea
We can’t talk about best places to swim in North Dakota without mentioning Lake Sakakawea. According to onlyinyourstate.com the lake has more shoreline than the entire state of California!!
If you haven’t been, add it to your bucket list; I know I will be.
4. Beaver Lake
This lake sits near Wishek, and has a little beach. It is perfect for your family to visit on a hot summer day.
5. Lake Metigoshe
I have to admit, I haven't visited this one yet, but the pictures look outstanding. It is incredibly scenic and peaceful.
6. McDowell Dam
If you’re looking for a place close to the Bismarck-Mandan area and aren’t really up for the river, you can always go to McDowell Dam. Kayak, paddle boats, or just wade in the water there.
