Bill Introduced to Forbid the Personal Use of Campaign Funds
You would think this should either be a law in North Dakota by now, or at least common ethics, but a new bill is being pushed that would forbid the personal use of campaign funds.
Lawmakers are proposing a bill in both the House and Senate that would make it illegal for campaign funds to be used for personal income.
This isn't the first time that political fundraising has come up, as a similar bipartisan bill was rejected by House Republicans just two years ago. The idea was also parodied on an episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
Sponsors of the House bill, such as Democrat Rep. Gretchen Dobervich, say it needs to be made clear that politicians cannot use campaign funds as a source of personal income.
