Halloween is almost here, so we thought it would be interesting to take a closer look at some of the most haunted places in North Dakota.

One of the spookiest places in our state is, hands down, the former governor's mansion.

According to the State Historical Society, the former governor's mansion, located at 320 E Ave. B in Bismarck, was built in 1884. It housed over 20 chief executives from 1884 to 1960. Of course, a new governor's mansion has been built, but the old mansion remains popular for a very spooky reason.

I've actually been inside the former governor's mansion. The caretakers of the house have preserved its vintage charm. It's now open to the public for tours and even has a playroom for kids.

As cute and interesting as it was, I couldn't help but get a little creeped out. After visiting, I talked to some people from Bismarck and heard all of the haunted rumors.

Apparently, Governor Frank Briggs died there of Tuberculosis in 1889. According to Haunt Scout, the butler who worked there after his death was convinced that his ghost haunted the attic.

Not only that, but people who've visited have claimed the master bedroom doors would open and close on their own, and curtains would move without any breeze or human interaction.

Now this claim is really creepy. Some people have said that a very heavy closet door sometimes SLAMS shut on its own. Others have said they felt a presence. Some said they heard footsteps in the halls. Others claimed to have heard voices. The source says a visitor even captured an EVP clearly warning them to stay away from the attic.

I don't know about you, but all of that sounds pretty creepy to me. What do you think? is the Former Governor's Mansion really haunted?
