Bismarck’s Party City Is Going Out Of Business

It seems like we hear about a new one every day—brick-and-mortar stores are closing all across the country.

We reported just yesterday that Big Lots Inc. is preparing 'out of business' sales for all remaining locations. Sadly, we have another one to report today.

According to CNN, after 40 years in business, Party City will be closing down all of its stores.

According to the source, the CEO of the company said that despite their best efforts, the company has been struggling to remain profitable for several years. He announced that the company was in a financial collapse.

The Bismarck store plans to start the liquidation process immediately and, depending on the amount of merchandise left, stay open through the end of February.

Party City's Ongoing Financial Struggles

The company declared bankruptcy in January 2023 as it was struggling to pay off its 1.7 billion dollars of debt. The bankruptcy filing cleared approximately $1 billion of said debt.

According to the source, the company closed a total of 80 stores between 2022 to August 2024. 800 stores managed to stay open, but as of today (December 20th, 2024), efforts to keep the remaining locations open have failed.

I'm sad to see our Bismarck Party City go. I recently went there for my Halloween costume and even went there this summer to get a pinata for a birthday party. The store had a greater selection of balloons, party plates, and pretty much everything else you could think of. This store helped last-minuters like myself many times over the years.
