In August, we reported that Big Lots Inc., the parent company of Big Lots, would be closing more than two hundred stores nationwide.

(SEE: Big Lots Closing Hundreds of Stores, Will North Dakota Be Affected?)

Naturally, that left Bismarck residents concerned, FYI, there's only one Big Lots store in North Dakota, and it is on E. Bismarck Expressway in Bismarck.

As far as we could tell, the company had no plans to shut down our store, but that very well may be changing.

According to PRNewswire.com, Big Lots Inc announced that a purchase agreement with Nexus Capital Management fell through. The company also explained that they are still working on completing an alternative transaction with either Nexus or another party.

This sale would need to close by early January.

While their hopes are high, the source claims that all Big Lots stores around the country are preparing for the worst; they are gearing up for 'going out of business' sales.

With that, we now know that our North Dakota Big Lots store may not be safe. This is not an official announcement of any particular store closing; it is just an update on the matter at hand.

Thoughts?

Would you be sad to see our Bismarck Big Lots go? Personally, the store saved the day for me recently by being one of the only places open on Thanksgiving Day. Let us know how you feel about this news by sending us a message in our app.
