Bismarck’s Beauty Mark-Patterson Place.
Pretty soon here in Bismarck, we'll be driving down on Main Avenue and an old friend will be smiling brightly once again. The historic Patterson Place building is getting some work done and will look like it did 100 years ago. A select group out of Minnesota - The Schuett Companies - is renovating the residential units, and from top to bottom they'll be giving this property they bought last year a face-lift so to speak. The companies President Tom Schuett explained their strategy “We’re trying to restore as much historic character as we can,”
This present year of 2020, the building has character and more, with 117 residential units. Those that live there will leave the building in the day time so the upgrading work will continue, and come back at night like usual. The exterior restoration will take more than just a few days, but as you can imagine, a building this old has some amazing history. To restore a building under the State Historic Preservation Office's guidelines, Renovators have to choose an era to which to restore the building, so the years between 1910 and 1940 was chosen since that's when the original construction took place. The Patterson Hotel was named back in 1928, and in it's run hosted four U.S Presidents: Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson.
The renovations are on track to be completed by the end of the year, The Peacock Alley restaurant is benefiting from all the renovation as well since the basement space which used to hold a barbershop and a pool hall will now be part of Peacock's expansion. For more on this story click here.
