What inspired the celebration of LGBTQIA Pride?

The story of what started Pride is not as happy as today's celebrations are. In fact, it started after the queer community in New York decided to stand up for themselves back in 1969. After a police raid of a gay bar called the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, the people affected decided they had had enough harassment. The Stonewall Uprising was a three-day riot that sparked a change for queer people everywhere. Learn more about the events that made Pride what it is today from CNN

I was born and raised in North Dakota, and I know that many people here are very conservative, unchanging in their thoughts and ways. But it is so important to see and embrace people who are different from ourselves. Like most of us, queer people just want to be embraced and accepted. And is there a better way to embrace and accept them than by joining the celebration?
