Debunking: Is ND Safe? Let’s Look At Death Rates & Hospitalizations
Over the past couple years we've seen mixed messages come across national news outlets. Some labeled us as one of the worst states in terms of safety and health when it comes to COVID-19, while others have said the complete opposite.
So, what's the truth?
Well, it depends on what data you're analyzing. WalletHub did a study looking at all 50 states. They used five key metrics to come up with their findings. They looked at the number of people who've been vaccinated, hospitalizations, deaths and transmissions.
North Dakota Is One Of The Safest States?!
According to WalletHub, that's the tea. They ranked us at number 7 on the list of "Safest States During COVID-19." This survey found North Dakota was able to keep the pandemic under control reasonably well, and the state had a much lower death toll than others.
What's REALLY interesting is that one of their graphs shows that North Dakota ranks as one of the lowest, if not the lowest state in COVID-19 death rates, but... we also rank low in vaccination rates. Interesting, no? What's in our secret sauce?
The LEAST Safe States?
Oh, I've gotta know. The overall least safe state in terms of hospitalizations and death rate is none other than Tennessee. Yikes! Behind Tennessee it goes: Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, then Michigan.
The Safest?
They put Maine at the very top of the list. I've literally never heard anything about Maine, ever. Have we proven it really exists though? -- Jk.
Behind Maine it goes: Rhode Island, North Carolina, Connecticut, then Vermont. It looks like New England has the tops spots on lock.
