Rep. Ben Hanson has introduced legislation that would require the study of issues related to the issuing of Digital Driver's Licenses in North Dakota.

This legislation follows Iowa and Delaware allowing digital drivers licenses in their state.

A Digital Driver's License would be contained within a secure smartphone app that could be used in place of a traditional driver's license when state-issued identification is required.

The House Transportation Committee sent House Concurrent Resolution 3036 to a vote of the full house with a 5-0 'Do-Pass' recommendation.

The study would look into security concerns, as well as costs to the state and drivers if the state were to adopt a digital alternative.
