As Bismarck was in the throes of another wintery snow squall, the City of Bismarck dropped a major booze bomb on an unsuspecting public. It all came in a standard press release.  It was only "wintery" because winter only actually begins next week. But. I digress.

The big news dump happened in the middle of a big snow dump

Unlike my inflatable Christmas decorations, I can't let this story get lost in the drifts. (I don't want you to worry, my inflatables will be fine). On Wednesday this week, The City of Bismarck released this!

City Accepting Sealed Bids for Class D Alcohol License

BISMARCK, ND—For the first time in three years, the City of Bismarck is accepting sealed bids for its most expensive, and least restrictive, alcohol license. Interested individuals have until 3 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023, to submit their sealed bid for the license. Bids must be at least $200,000 and the highest bid will be awarded the license.

Two hundred thousand dollars! Mind you, that's just the starting bid.  This bird could fly pretty high. The reason it could skyrocket out of sight is best stated by City of Bismarck Assistant Administrator Jason Tomanek...

“This Class D License is the Cadillac of our alcohol license offerings,” “By winning the bid on this license, an interested person, or party, can offer on-, or off-sale beer, wine, or spirits to its customers”

On-sale and off-sale? Are you ready to be the big operator in the region? Do you have a few hundred thousand in the bank to get started? Do you have a venue that is ready to move up to Class D- the Cadillac of Bismarck liquor licenses? The clock is ticking my friends to get those financial plans in order...

Interested individuals must complete and submit a Class D Bid Form. This completed form must be accompanied by a bid security of 10% of the bid amount in the form of a certified check or money order payable to the City of Bismarck. The sealed bids will be opened at 4 p.m. on January 13, 2023. Bids will be opened in the Mayor’s Conference Room on the fourth floor of the City/County Building (221 North Fifth Street in Bismarck).

So you need the cash, the venue, the marketing plan, the consumers, and most importantly- PEOPLE TO WORK BEHIND THE COUNTER! Which seems to be a precious commodity indeed. But by all means, reach for your wallet and reach your dreams!
