They say every town, no matter how small, has at least 3 bars. How many bars do you think are in North Dakota?

Any guesses?

If you were curious, lucky for you because I looked it up. I found the answer to this burning question, and it may surprise you

North Dakotans are known for loving a good beer, so you would think the number of bars across the state would be pretty high. Here's what I found:

How Many Bars Are In North Dakota?

According to a company called Vinepair, North Dakota has more than 379 bars. Other sources say that number is closer to 422.

If I had the time to go from town to town and count, I would, but for now, I'll just take their word for it.

To be honest, I thought the number would be a bit higher.

Bars Per Capita

If you don't think that's a lot, the source claims that's roughly 1 bar for every 1,500 people.

According to the Grand Forks Herald, in 2013, North Dakota had the most bars per capita.

North Dakota has more bars (Total) than TENNESSEE, UTAH, and WASHINGTON D.C.!

Wow. Just wow.

Drunkest States

According to, North Dakota comes in at number four on the list of "Drunkest States."

If you're wondering which state was named the drunkest, I got you. New Hampshire took the top spot, followed by Delaware and Nevada.

How We Feel About It

If being labeled one of the "Drunkest" states and having more bars per capita makes you anything less than proud, I'm not sure you have the right/true North Dakota spirit.

We farm, we ranch, we fish, we boat, and we drink. It's fine.
