This Friday will see The Defenders finally catch us up on Jessica Jones after two years, but Season 2 will take the boozy private investigator right back where she started. David Tennant’s Kilgrave is confirmed for a Season 2 return, and you won’t have to break your neck for a first look.

Entertainment Weekly confirms that current DuckTales star Tennant will reprise his mind-controlling big bad role in Season 2, despite – spoiler alert – Jessica snapping his neck in the climax of Season 1. Either flashback or lingering presence in Jessica’s mind seems like the best bet (Marvel offered no details of the return), and we’d guess Jessica Jones confirmed the appearance to avoid Tennant’s role leaking out in set photos.

Elsewhere of Jessica Jones Season 2, Damages and White Queen star Janet McTeer has been confirmed to join the Season 2 cast, along with Arrow alum J.R. Ramirez as Jessica’s new super. The 100 and Twilight alum Leah Gibson has also been cast as Ingrid, described as “street-wise but who also has an education as a nurse,” and may or may not be Daredevil villain Typhoid Mary.

We also know that showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has confirmed an all-female director lineup for the next 13 episodes, with True Blood and Supernatural writer Raelle Tucker joining Season 2 to replace executive producer Liz Friedman. Rosenberg has also previously spoken to the possibility of featuring multiple villains, to fill the void left by Tennant’s Kilgrave.

We’ll hear more soon, so stay tuned for the latest on Jessica Jones Season 2.
