If you've ever wanted your very own personal Cortana, then the Windows Phone 8.1 update should get you excited. Here's a first look at Cortana's user interface.

According to The Verge, sources "familiar with Microsoft's plans" have revealed how Cortana looks and operates to them. If you have no clue what Cortana is, just think of it as Microsoft's answer to Siri, the personal digital assistant on iOS devices that works off voice commands and can complete tasks for you.

A purported shot of the interface is shown below, giving us a look at the Settings options. As you can see, Cortana is able to give you your own nickname, much in the same way that Siri can call you whatever you like. We'll bet dollars to donuts that more than a handful of people will want to be called "Master Chief."

Cortana's Notebook, according to The Verge, allows the assistant to save information and data about you, such as location data, behaviors, personal information, reminders and contact information. Cortana can use this data to generate notifications and suggestions for you, all based on your information and preferences.

Cortana's arrival is supposed to come in a Windows 8.1 update on April 8. We won't have long to wait to see what Microsoft has in store for the former Halo co-star.
