New plans are in place for a brand new, safer playground at Wing Public School. - Bismarck/Minot/Williston/Dickinson-KXNEWS,ND

The new equipment will replace the current metal bars and jungle gyms, which are roughly half a century old.

Plans include laying down shock-absorbing wood chips to cushion falls that are inevitable wherever children play. Currently the playground sits atop only grass.

The endeavor, called Project Playground, will also see the almost entirely metal play equipment, which current students describe as "alright," replaced with more colorful, kid-friendly and up-to-code plastic and wooden play sets.

Kids are particularly excited about the new slides and tire swings that will go in. Hailey Buee, a 5th grader, mentions "this one like thing where like you hang on and it like spins really fast."

The school has set a goal of $57,000 that they would like to raise within a year. If you would like to donate, send your contribution to:
