The source used 21 different metrics to come up with these findings. Some of the metrics include: air pollution, water quality, waste management, and resident dissatisfaction levels in each city.

The dirtiest city in the country, according to the source, is San Bernardino, California. Overall, the city's score was 54.90.

The second dirtiest city was found to be Detroit, Michigan ranking at 52.89. You’ll also notice Reading, Pennsylvania as number three on the list. Number four is none other than Newark, New Jersey.

What about the cleanest cities? The source claims the cleanest in the country is Lynchburg, Virginia. Our neighboring state, Minnesota, has the second cleanest city -- Duluth, Minnesota.

So, which North Dakota city ranks among the cleanest? Fargo comes in at number 20 on the source's "Cleanest Cities in the Country" list.

Bismarck isn’t too far behind, as it ranks at number 53 out of a total of 303.
